OVERVIEW:
Kalu Waterfall is one of the tallest and most stunning waterfalls in Maharashtra, located deep in the Sahyadri ranges near Khireshwar village, close to the famous Malshej Ghat. Cascading from a height of around 1200 feet, this majestic multi-tiered waterfall is formed by the Kalu River, a tributary of the Ulhas River. It becomes a spectacular sight during the monsoon season, typically from mid-June to September, when the surrounding forests come alive with mist, streams, and vibrant greenery. Reaching Kalu Waterfall involves an adventurous jungle trek of around 1.5 to 2 hours, passing through dense forest trails, river crossings, and panoramic valley views, including glimpses of the mighty Harishchandragad fort. The trail is moderately challenging and best explored with a local guide, especially during peak monsoon due to slippery terrain and rising water levels. Kalu Waterfall remains an offbeat and less crowded destination, making it a perfect retreat for nature lovers, photographers, and trekkers seeking raw, untouched beauty. Surrounded by rich biodiversity and dramatic cliffs, it offers a true monsoon escape into nature’s wilderness.
